Maria Semple began her writing career in Hollywood, where she worked as a writer for such shows as Ellen, Mad About You, Arrested Development, and some bad shows she would rather not talk about. The glamour of Hollywood eventually wore thin for Maria, and she moved to Seattle and wrote her first novel, This One Is Mine. She is currently at work on her second.
